Hey y’all. It’s me again, shouting at the internet.
You haven’t left yet though? Good. Because things are about to get interesting ’round these parts.
Thanks for hanging out this past year. Since I launched Away We Stray in November of 2015, you’ve seen me develop this website into something I’m proud of. When I put my hosting rights onto a credit card just last year, I knew that I was signing myself up for a commitment longer than most of my relationships (Just Kidding, Brandon!!). What I didn’t know is how much I would fall in love with this work. It’s a little silly to think about how much I love this blog. And even weirder to imagine that I love something on the internet. I need to get out more.
As some of you might know based on my posts on Instagram or Facebook, I’ll be leaving for a 3-month backpacking trip through South East Asia later next month. Although I am excited for the adventure, I’m nervous to leave what little stability I have built these past 6 months in Seattle. Because the S.E. Asia trip represents life as a wanderer once again. You see, just as soon as I settle back in to life in the U.S. (In January), I’ll be leaving once again in March.
This time for a year, or more.
So….What’s Next?
I’m giving up most worldly possessions I own and trading them in for a backpack and a semi-regular hygiene routine. I don’t know much about where I’ll be on a month-to-month basis, but I can tell you that I’ll be somewhere in the “American” (read: Central or South) continents between March 2017 and the foreseeable future.
“But Cassy, what will you be doing?” Well, internet friend, I’ll be working on a farm…. I’ll find internet work…. I’ll work at a hostel….. I’ll write to you guys about everything I find while I’m away. And when (if????) the money finally runs out, I’ll head home. Where ever I decide “Home” might be.
If you want help setting up your own trip/travel/lifestyle/whatever- send me an email at cassy(at) awaywestray (dot) com, or take a look at my Travel Resources Page or my English Teaching Abroad Page. For now, I can’t give you a ton of advice on finding work (since I haven’t done it yet) however, I’ll say this: I’m using WWOOF to farm, Work Away to find other job opportunities, and I’m wingin’ it the rest of the time.
The TL;DR version:
I don’t know what the hell I’m doing. I booked a flight South East Asia for 3 months. Then I’ll be in Central and South America figuring it out. Or not. Who knows at this point anyway?
PS: Don’t ask me how I convinced my boyfriend to come along. I’m still trying to figure THAT out too.
If you have any questions for me….or advice (I’m allll ears!) please comment them below. I can use the help.
