Sion Surf Camp
At the top of ours list is Galle Beach (UM…just look at that VIEW!)
Sri Lanka is famous for their surf breaks so grab your suit and sunscreen and sign up for some surf lessons. The staff over at Sion Surf camp are amazing and will help any level of surfer feel comfortable on the waves. Drop by for a day or sign up for a full week surf package that includes two surf sessions a day, breakfast and dinner and all while staying in a hut on amazing beach front property.
Mirissa Beach
At the top of our list is Mirissa Beach (Um…look at that VIEW!!)
Head to Mirissa beach to soak in the sun, snorkel, dine with your toes in the sand, and buy the famous $5 harem pants from local vendors. Our advice is to spend the day in this beautiful beach town. You’ll want to stick around until sunset to climb up to the large Mirissa rock for amazing views and then head over to Kava for a passion fruit mojito.
Dawella Beach
Dawella beach is anything but a tiny beach town. This palm-tree rope swing alone makes it worth the extra stop. Head over to Dawella guest house for a smoothie, ride the waves, or spend $3 to hop on the rope swing. Can you say “#instafamous?”
Jungle Beach
Grab a fresh coconut and hang out with locals at Jungle beach. This cove is hidden within luscious greenery and provides warm sand and clear water for lounging around. Pack a lunch or visit the beach front restaurant for a fresh fish dish.
Welligma
Beginner surfers — this beach is for you! They have rolling waves that are easy to catch with a longboard and will make you look like a pro surfer. Across the beach is a great cafe called Ceylon Sliders that is filled with organic smoothie bowls and local specialities. This is a must!
Unawatuna
This may be a touristy beach but it is the place to go for every type of souvenir. Grab lunch with your feet in the sand and then wander the windy roads to find shop after shop to grab gifts for all of your friends for less than $20 USD.
Madiha
Head to this local surfer spot and indulge in food and music at The Doctors House. This hang out spot is a mix of Sri Lankan and Australian food and will for sure be a good time. Check out their Instagram page to see when they will be having one of their famous live music day parties.
“Sri Lankas Best Beaches” is a guest post written by Kelly Bryden, Art Director Extraordinaire. You can catch Kelly sipping coconuts between surf breaks, or teaching hip-hop dance in San Francisco. (I.E. channelling her inner Beyonce) She has a fabulous instagram, and dance moves we should all aspire to.
