The 411 on Austin Tex-Mex
Whether you need a roadside taco truck or a fancy sit-down meal complete with hanging sculptures, you’ve come to the right location. Austin is chock-full of quality Tex-mex restaurants that serve fishbowl-sized margaritas, mouth-watering entrees, and dipping sauces so good, you’ll eat out just for chips & guac. But don’t take my word for it, check these 3 out for yourself:
Torchy’s Tacos
Starting out with our budget option: Torchy’s tacos! I can’t get over how entertaining their “Trailer Park” eatery location is, though it’s one of the only Torchy’s that doesn’t have a full bar. All of their locations serve a-la-carte taco’s for $2.5-5, including all-day breakfast menu. You haven’t lived until you’ve had a breakfast taco.
They have plenty of vegan options, though their spicy queso is not one of them. If you happen to stop in at one of the locations serving alcohol, make sure to try their Torchy-tini
Chuy’s
They have this to-die-for sauce called “creamy jalapeno”. (Unfortunately not Vegan), Beer-garitas. And daily specials that almost force you to return everyday just to say you’ve had it all. My personal favorite is the fried & stuffed avocado (I substitute out chicken for sauteed vegetables) . There aren’t that many vegan options, but if you’re looking for a cheap happy hour menu, they have a free salsa bar and margaritas on tap!
